🌿 Spring brings changes

Perry County • April 4, 2025

Good morning, Perry County. As winter's grip loosens across Ohio, those blue skies aren't just signaling springβ€”they're practically shouting "hit the trails!" The Buckeye Trail's potential National Scenic Trail designation comes just as hiking season beckons outdoor enthusiasts throughout the state. Meanwhile, Perry County just made history with its first-ever cannabis dispensary as Ethos opens its doors in New Lexington, bringing both medical and recreational products to a previously underserved region.

In local sports, a seismic shift has rocked Sheridan High School's baseball program. Legendary coach Doug Fisher has stepped away after amassing an astounding 856 career wins over three decades. With spring training just two weeks away, his sudden departure leaves big cleats to fill, though Fisher hasn't completely closed the door on coaching elsewhere if "the right opportunity presents itself." Spring, it seems, is bringing changes of all kinds to Perry County.

πŸ† Legendary coach abruptly resigns after 856 career wins. Doug Fisher stepped away from Sheridan High School's baseball program just two weeks before the season started, ending a remarkable three-decade coaching career. The respected Ohio coach, who taught at the school since 1993, accumulated over 850 combined wins between basketball and baseball, including a Division II state basketball appearance in 2019.
