💰 Funding finally

Good morning, Muskingum County. After half a century without asking for additional funding, Trimble schools now face a watershed moment as officials seek their first levy since the Nixon administration. The proposed 1% earned income tax would generate $665,000 annually to address an $11 million deficit, while sparing retirees from increased financial burden. This historic request comes amid community debates about accountability and the potentially higher tax consequences if the district were to close entirely.

Tragedy struck on Interstate 77 early Tuesday when Newcomerstown resident Christopher Morrow lost his life in a single-vehicle accident near Cambridge. Meanwhile, economic revitalization continues in neighboring Coshocton County, where a massive $58.7 million grant will transform the former Conesville power plant site into an industrial hub expected to generate over 500 direct jobs. The 2,000-acre development represents one of the region's most significant economic investments in decades.

💰 Trimble schools seek first levy in 50 years amid financial crisis. The district's board unanimously approved placing a 1% earned income tax on November's ballot, which would generate $665,000 annually to address an $11 million deficit. Community members expressed concerns about accountability for past financial mismanagement, though some supported the proposal since it wouldn't affect retirees. Officials warned that if the district closes, residents would pay taxes to other districts with potentially higher rates. The board meets again July 24 to finalize the levy proposal.
