Good morning, Muskingum County. As Memorial Day approaches, the story of 17-year-old Marine Emmett Paul Luther stands as a powerful reminder of sacrifice. The Jacksontown native who enlisted in 1942 never returned home after being wounded during the invasion of Guam in 1944, his remains never recovered despite his mother placing a headstone at Wilson Cemetery years later. His story echoes the profound meaning behind the holiday we observe this weekend.

Meanwhile, education continues transforming lives across our region as C-TEC celebrates 373 graduating seniors equipped with career-ready skills. New superintendent Michelle Snow is championing ambitious initiatives to strengthen business partnerships and expand adult education programs. And for families looking ahead to summer fun, Coshocton County's calendar is filling quickly with swimming lessons at Lake Park Aquatic Center, bicycle safety programs with free helmets, and even a health fair organized by an enterprising 9-year-old.

🎖️ A Marine who died at 17 never saw home again. Emmett Paul Luther of Jacksontown enlisted in 1942, serving in several Pacific Theater battles including Guadalcanal and the Marshall Islands. After being wounded during the invasion of Guam in July 1944, he was initially reported missing in action before being declared presumptively dead at just 17 years old. His remains were never recovered, though his mother placed a headstone at Wilson Cemetery in 1961. This Memorial Day serves as a reminder to honor fallen service members like Luther by sharing their stories and keeping their memories alive.
