🌱 Garden grit

Muskingum County • March 19, 2025

Good morning, Muskingum County. In a time when community resilience matters more than ever, we’re seeing both challenges and triumphs unfold around us. The recent cuts to federal grants have left our local community gardens, like the Garden for All, scrambling to adapt while still striving to provide fresh produce to those in need. Reverend Catherine Duffy remains hopeful, emphasizing that the garden will continue its vital mission.

On a brighter note, the Hopewell Indians recently brought the house down with a fun-filled basketball game against a celebrity team, raising funds and spirits alike. Meanwhile, our hearts go out to the family of John LeMaster, who tragically lost his life in an industrial accident this week. It’s a reminder of the importance of safety in our workplaces.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

🥕 Ohio community gardens face funding cuts amid rising hunger. The Trump Administration's recent decision to cancel federal grants has left local farms, including the Garden for All in New Albany, without crucial financial support. This funding was vital for food banks to purchase directly from farmers, impacting their ability to provide fresh produce to those in need. Reverend Catherine Duffy emphasized that these cuts not only threaten hunger relief efforts but also jeopardize the livelihoods of farmers. Despite the setback, Duffy reassured supporters that the garden will continue its mission to feed the community.
