Montgomery County • May 5, 2025
Good morning, Montgomery County. Breaking codes that stump thousands might sound like something from a spy thriller, but it's happening right in our backyard. Cedarville University senior Kaicheng Ye has joined an elite club of just 100 people nationwide who cracked the NSA's formidable Codebreaker Challenge. As Greene County prepares to honor this cybersecurity whiz, downtown Dayton is recovering from a different kind of challenge—the March storm that left Stratacache Tower with $1 million in damage after 22 windows were blown out.
Amid codes and construction, there's promising news for West Dayton families. Dayton Children's Hospital has broken ground on a new pediatric urgent care facility on Germantown Street, designed to provide same-day care for non-emergency situations. With extended hours and walk-in appointments, the CareSource-backed project directly addresses healthcare access needs expressed by local families—proving sometimes the best solutions come from simply listening to community voices.

🔐 Beavercreek native cracks elite NSA code challenge. Kaicheng Ye, a Cedarville University senior, will be honored by Greene County Commissioners for solving the 2022 NSA Codebreaker Challenge. Out of 6,000 participants nationwide, Ye was among only 100 individuals who successfully completed the cybersecurity challenge featuring reverse engineering and web exploitation problems. The cyber operations major was surprised by the recognition, noting it differs from typical county awards for sports or organizational achievements. Guided by his Christian values and desire to help others, Ye plans to continue in cybersecurity after graduation to protect systems and people in our digital world.
🏢 Stratacache Tower hit with $1 million in damage during March storm. The downtown Dayton building suffered 22 blown or damaged windows after a parapet wall collapsed from an adjacent structure at 34 N. Main Street. CEO Chris Riegel praised the city's responsive handling of the situation while calling for a strategic plan to address decaying downtown infrastructure. Dayton has approved nearly $2 million for emergency stabilization work on the compromised neighboring building, which engineers have determined is structurally sound despite the damage. About 100 Stratacache employees were initially displaced but have since returned to the company's headquarters.
