🏨 Hotel boom

Montgomery County • April 18, 2025

Good morning, Montgomery County. The intersection of I-70 and I-75 is about to welcome a new neighbor. Butler Township's upcoming 99-room Staybridge Suites marks a significant addition to an already thriving hotel corridor that generates a quarter of the county's hotel revenue. This extended-stay property, complete with an indoor pool and fitness facilities, continues the area's pattern of strategic growth even as other community pillars face challenges.

The contrasts in today's news reflect our community's complex reality. While new development proceeds, the Dayton Food Bank grapples with approximately $2 million in federal funding cuts that will alter available offerings for vulnerable residents. Meanwhile, a deeply personal drama unfolds as local church members rally around Armando Leonel Reyes Rodriguez, a Honduran immigrant detained during a routine check-in, highlighting how national policies create ripple effects through Montgomery County families.

🏨 Butler Township is getting a new 99-room Staybridge Suites hotel. The four-story, 79,000-square-foot extended-stay property will be built at 7290 Miller Lane near the intersection of I-70 and I-75. Construction is expected to begin in late 2024, featuring suite-style rooms, an indoor pool, outdoor seating area, and fitness facilities. This will be the second Staybridge Suites in the Dayton area, joining an already hotel-rich corridor that generates significant revenue for the township—in 2019, the Miller Lane area accounted for approximately 25% of Montgomery County's total hotel base.

🍽️ Dayton Food Bank loses millions amid federal funding cuts. The organization, which fights food insecurity in the community, has lost approximately $2 million worth of meat, dairy, and canned goods. Additional cuts include over $400,000 in locally sourced products and nearly $20,000 for their summer feeding program. Chief Development Officer Lee Alder says they've had 12 food orders canceled between now and June's end. While food will still be available for those in need, Alder warns the offerings may look different in the coming months.
