Good morning, Meigs County. The compassionate spirit of our area's youth was on full display when Mason County Career Center FFA members transformed National Dog Day into meaningful action. Their donation of nearly $300 in pet supplies to an overcrowded local animal shelter demonstrates how small gestures can make a significant difference for the 3.1 million dogs entering U.S. shelters annually. This heartwarming initiative showcases the next generation's commitment to community service.

Meanwhile, civic engagement takes center stage across our region. Parkersburg City Council's controversial vote to increase agenda item sponsor requirements sparked visible protest from residents, while Belpre's town hall addressed pressing infrastructure concerns with solutions on the horizon. From the $569,000 inclusive playground coming to Civitan Park next month to adjusted council meeting times, local governments are making changes that will impact daily life throughout our communities.

🐾 Students turn National Dog Day into shelter supply drive. Mason County Career Center FFA members donated nearly $300 worth of pet supplies to their local animal shelter in West Virginia. The donation, presented on August 26, included food, cleaning items, toys, and treats for the shelter's dogs. FFA Chapter leaders Chloe Patrick and Gabriella King emphasized the importance of supporting the overcrowded facility. National Dog Day, founded in 2004, aims to raise awareness about shelter animals and encourage adoption as approximately 3.1 million dogs enter U.S. shelters annually.

🗣️ Parkersburg silences citizens with stricter council agenda rules. Amid protests from residents wearing tape over their mouths, Parkersburg City Council voted 6-3 to increase the number of sponsors required for discussion-only agenda items from three to four. The controversial resolution, which critics say further limits public input, was amended from the original proposal requiring five sponsors. A dozen citizens spoke against the measure during public forum, with one resident suggesting the change pushes the city toward "Communism" by restricting free speech. The vote follows an earlier rule change that limited public comments to agenda items only, fueling concerns about diminishing civic participation.
