Good morning, Meigs County. Preserving history while embracing a post-apocalyptic future might sound contradictory, but that's exactly what's happening in our corner of Ohio. The Meigs County Historical Society is marking an impressive milestone – 150 years of safeguarding our collective past – with a special celebration planned for September 2025. From its humble beginnings with pioneer storytelling sessions in 1876 to today's expansive Middleport campus, the society has ensured our local heritage remains alive for generations.

In a fascinating glimpse of what lies ahead, Point Pleasant will transform into a futuristic wasteland in 2027 as the newly approved "Power Armor" festival brings cosplay enthusiasts and gamers together for a two-day post-apocalyptic gathering. City officials gave the green light during their August meeting, with organizers already mapping out the details. Between honoring our past and imagining alternate futures, Meigs County continues to prove there's room for both tradition and imagination in our community.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

🏛️ Meigs County Historical Society celebrates 150 years of preserving local heritage. Founded in 1875 by concerned citizens hoping to document pioneer stories before they were lost to time, the society held its first official meeting in September 1876. Early gatherings featured prayer, historical presentations, and the collection of artifacts and stories from throughout the county. After outgrowing multiple locations, the society now operates from a campus in Middleport donated by the Hall Family. A special 150th anniversary celebration is planned for September 6, 2025, featuring museum tours, refreshments, music, and a glimpse at ongoing renovations of the 1872 Hall Complex.

🌍 Climate crisis deniers waste precious time as evidence mounts. Author Eric Engle challenges climate change skepticism, pointing to overwhelming scientific consensus and alarming global indicators. Recent events like global glacier mass loss, European wildfires, and Hurricane Erin's rapid intensification demonstrate climate change impacts. The Trump administration has allegedly conducted 402 "attacks on science" in early 2025, sidelining experts and halting data collection.
