📡 Activism meets technology

Meigs County • March 3, 2025

Good morning, Meigs County. February may be the shortest month, but our community's commitment to positive change is reaching new heights. At Ohio University's Alumni Gateway, students are channeling the spirit of generations past, rallying against legislation they believe threatens the diverse fabric of our academic community. Their QR codes and determination are proving that activism in 2024 comes with both passion and technology.

On the healthcare front, OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital is turning lunch into a life-saving opportunity, offering free lung cancer screenings complete with complimentary meals. And if you're looking for weekend inspiration, tune your dial to WOUB 1340 AM, where Radio Free Athens is serving up the soundtrack to our community's story - one volunteer DJ at a time. Who knew Saturday mornings could sound this good?

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

✊ Ohio University students rally against anti-diversity legislation at Alumni Gateway. The protest, organized by three masters students, aimed to fight Senate Bill 1 (now House Bill 6) and recent federal actions threatening DEI initiatives. Demonstrators distributed QR codes linking to resources and contact information for relevant representatives. Students like Michael Rohs emphasized the historical importance of student protests in driving social change. Local residents joined the cause, warning that attacks on diversity programs could divide communities and distract from larger societal issues.
