Meigs County • February 26, 2025
Good morning, Meigs County. Remember when a hospital scholarship meant enough to cover your textbooks? Times have changed - WVU Medicine Camden Clark is stepping up with a whopping $15,000 in scholarships for tomorrow's healthcare heroes, proving that investing in local talent is just what the doctor ordered. While Mother Nature's been giving our roads the cold shoulder (with thirteen crashes to show for it), our community's spirit remains unshakeable.
And speaking of unshakeable spirits, the Mid-Ohio Valley is about to transform into a cultural powerhouse this weekend. From Josh Turner's smooth country vocals at Peoples Bank Theatre to young performers bringing Wonka's whimsy to life at the Actors Guild, we're serving up enough entertainment options to make Broadway jealous. Who knew our corner of Ohio could pack so much punch into one weekend?

🏥 Local hospital offers $15,000 to help future healthcare heroes. WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center has announced scholarship opportunities for Mid-Ohio Valley students pursuing nursing and healthcare careers in 2025. The Camden Clark Foundation will award two $2,500 nursing scholarships, while the Hospital Auxiliary will provide up to four $2,500 Leo D. Carsner Memorial Scholarships. Students must live in the hospital's 11-county service area across West Virginia and Ohio and have completed their first year of college. Applications for both scholarship programs are due by April 10, with awards to be presented in spring.
🚔 Winter wreaks havoc on Ohio roads as thirteen crashes reported. The Ohio State Highway Patrol documented multiple accidents across Washington County in February, with most incidents caused by icy conditions and poor weather. Several drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital, while others walked away unharmed. Vehicles ranging from personal cars to a semi-truck encountered various obstacles, including ditches, utility poles, and even a flying goose. Most incidents resulted in charges of operation without reasonable control over vehicles.
🎭 Mid-Ohio Valley explodes with arts and entertainment this weekend! The region's cultural calendar features over 30 diverse events across Parkersburg, Marietta, and Athens from Thursday through Sunday. The lineup includes Josh Turner performing live at Peoples Bank Theatre, multiple showings of "Willy Wonka Jr." at the Actors Guild, and a unique Women of Appalachia Fine Art Exhibition. Art enthusiasts can enjoy everything from photography displays and pottery classes to magical wizardry sessions and psychic fairs. Local libraries and cultural centers are hosting family-friendly activities including storytimes, craft nights, and musical performances.
