Good morning, Marion County. The long-awaited grocery desert in downtown Columbus is finally seeing an oasis appear on the horizon. Giant Eagle Market District's planned 20,000-square-foot location at The Peninsula development promises to fill a critical gap for residents who've been traveling outside the neighborhood for essentials. This anchor tenant represents more than just convenience—it's another building block in downtown's ongoing renaissance.

Meanwhile, contrasting political fortunes are taking shape as Democrat John Kulewicz throws his hat into the 2026 attorney general race, challenging Republican dominance in statewide offices. On the cultural front, a beloved Columbus institution faces an uncertain future as Bossy Grrl's Pin Up Joint confronts financial challenges despite its loyal following. The North High Street burlesque bar's struggle highlights how even cherished local businesses must continuously adapt in today's changing entertainment landscape.

⚖️ Upper Arlington Democrat challenges Republican stronghold for attorney general. John Kulewicz, a city council member and longtime lawyer, has announced his candidacy for Ohio attorney general in the 2026 election. He joins fellow Democrat Elliot Forhan in the race against Republican State Auditor Keith Faber for the seat currently held by term-limited Dave Yost. Kulewicz, who retired last year after 44 years at a Columbus law firm, promises to be "the people's lawyer" who will "stand up to anyone who doesn't put the rule of law first." Democrats face an uphill battle, having last won a state executive position in Ohio in 2008.

💃 Beloved burlesque bar fights for survival in Columbus. Bossy Grrl's Pin Up Joint, a North High Street fixture since 2013, faces potential closure by mid-November due to financial struggles. Owner Cora Helton has tried extending hours, adding mocktails and THC drinks to combat declining alcohol consumption trends. Despite some criticism over its LGBTQ-friendly stance, community response to the closure announcement has been overwhelmingly positive, with some patrons making donations. Helton remains committed to preserving the concept and community even if the physical location closes, possibly through shows at larger venues.

🛒 Downtown Columbus is finally getting its long-awaited grocery store.
