Good morning, Marion County. From the devastation of Hurricane Katrina emerged an unexpected musical phoenix. When musician David Brown lost everything in New Orleans, he found not just refuge in Ohio, but inspiration to create something remarkable. His Harmony Project has grown from humble beginnings to a 1,000-voice choir that fills arenas and caught John Legend's attention—proving that sometimes our greatest creations are born from our darkest moments.

The local news landscape presents a study in contrasts this week. A federal hate crime case reaches resolution after an attack on Jewish students near Ohio State, highlighting ongoing concerns about religious-targeted violence. Meanwhile, the beauty industry faces scrutiny as a Boss Gal Beauty Bar co-owner pleads not guilty to identity fraud charges related to weight-loss drug prescriptions, with his attorney describing the situation as merely an "administrative oversight" rather than intentional wrongdoing.

🎵 Hurricane Katrina's destruction sparked a 1,000-voice choir in Columbus. After losing everything in New Orleans, musician David Brown found refuge in Ohio where he founded Harmony Project in 2009. The community choir brings together people from all walks of life not just to sing, but to serve through volunteer projects in schools and prisons. Brown's inspiration came from witnessing diverse groups working side-by-side after Katrina, helping him find the "missing piece" in his work. Now a thriving nonprofit, the project has grown from flyers to filling arenas and even inspiring a CBS special with John Legend.

The attack occurred outside a bar on North High Street when Mamatov identified the students as Jewish by a religious pendant, then fractured one victim's jaw and another's nose. University officials condemned the antisemitic violence, emphasizing that hate crimes have no place in their community. Mamatov, who has no affiliation with Ohio State, awaits sentencing from a federal judge.
