🍽️ Dining solo

Good morning, Licking County. After four successful years sharing space at Eastside Brewing, Slab Kitchen is ready for its solo debut. The popular eatery is transforming the former Tempe Taco space in downtown Reynoldsburg into a full-service restaurant with elevated comfort food and craft cocktails. This local success story mirrors another culinary institution making headlines—The Top Steak House, which has been perfecting the art of the supper club experience for an impressive 70 years, proving that quality and tradition never go out of style.

While our dining scene flourishes, Groveport Madison Schools faces growing pains of its own. The district is seeking $77.2 million through Issue 24 to address overcrowding with three new schools. The proposal would cost homeowners an additional $81.55 annually per $100,000 of home value, sparking debate among board members about the community's long-term educational needs. If rejected, officials warn modular classrooms may become necessary to accommodate the district's expanding student population.

🥩 A Columbus steakhouse celebrates 70 years of supper club magic. The Top Steak House, founded in 1955 just outside Bexley, remains faithful to its original vision while evolving under its third owners, the Schoedinger family. The restaurant offers an authentic supper club experience with live piano music, a bustling bar, and tables close enough to encourage conversation between diners. While maintaining classic menu items, The Top has thoughtfully enhanced quality options, including special Wagyu cuts. Current owner Matt Schoedinger sees himself as a "steward" of the establishment, preserving its legacy for future generations.

Two school board members plan to vote against the proposal, questioning whether the plans suit the community's long-term needs. Board President Seth Bowers supports Issue 24, arguing students deserve better facilities as the district faces overcrowding. If rejected, the district warns it may need modular classrooms to accommodate growth and will likely try again.
