Licking County • April 22, 2025
Good morning, Licking County. The local food scene is heating up faster than a smoker on competition day. OX-B's chicken chain is spreading its wings to Buckeye Lake, marking its fifth location since evolving from a humble food trailer in 2020. Meanwhile, Slab Kitchen is graduating from its brewery beginnings to a standalone restaurant in Reynoldsburg, where those fall-off-the-bone ribs and signature Slab burgers will soon have a permanent home with a full bar to boot.
Beyond the culinary renaissance, twelve exceptional educators are being celebrated for their classroom dedication through the Leaders for Learning awards. Each recipient received a $1,000 grant and a hand-blown glass apple from The Worksβa fitting symbol for those who plant the seeds of knowledge daily. Since 1993, this prestigious program has recognized over 400 teachers and distributed more than $100,000 to support educational excellence throughout our county.

π OX-B's chicken chain spreading its wings to Buckeye Lake. The locally grown restaurant is taking over a former coffee shop location at 10960 Hebron Road, planning to utilize the existing pickup window for online orders. This marks OX-B's fifth permanent location in the Columbus area, following their February opening in Newark. Founded in 2020 from a food trailer, the fast-casual concept has expanded beyond wings to include sandwiches, salads, wraps and signature items like chicken and waffle fries. Owner Joe Holbrook, who previously led development for Bibibop Asian Grill, continues to grow the brand at a measured pace.
π Slab Kitchen outgrows brewery home, moves to standalone restaurant. The popular barbecue joint is relocating from Eastside Brewing to a former taco shop in Reynoldsburg, with plans to open in early June. Owners Bryan and Terron Nelson will expand their menu and add a full bar in the larger space, building on their successful six-year journey that began as a food truck. Known for their fall-off-the-bone ribs and signature Slab burger topped with rib meat, the move creates an opportunity for a new food vendor at Eastside Brewing.
π Twelve exceptional teachers receive prestigious Leaders for Learning awards. The Licking County Foundation honored educators from each of the county's public school districts for their commitment to excellence and positive impact on students. Each recipient received a $1,000 grant through the Foundation's Lindorf-Warner Memorial Fund for classroom needs or professional development. The teachers were also presented with hand-blown glass apples crafted at The Works, symbolizing their role in sparking knowledge and inspiration. Since its establishment in 1993, the award program has recognized over 400 teachers and provided more than $100,000 in grants.
