Licking County • April 15, 2025
Good morning, Licking County. The aroma of fresh pizza is wafting through Olde Towne East once again as Osteria Pizzeria breathes new life into a historic corner. Taking over the former Mikey's Late Night Slice location, owner Brad Hobbs has expanded beyond just pizza to create a vibrant hub below his comedy club. This revival represents more than just food—it's about maintaining neighborhood vitality in a post-pandemic landscape where community gathering spaces matter more than ever.
Healthcare is going mobile across central Ohio, with the aptly named Mobile Health Locator app connecting residents to services right where they live. No need to trek across town for basic care anymore. And transportation options are expanding too, with Licking County Transit seeing a remarkable 50% ridership surge this year. The popular Main Street route is just the beginning, with future expansions planned to Hebron and Buckeye Lake—making our county increasingly connected and accessible.

🍕 New pizza joint revives historic corner in Olde Towne East. Osteria Pizzeria has opened at 892 Oak Street, taking over the former Mikey's Late Night Slice location that closed last summer. Owner Brad Hobbs, who also runs The Olde Towne Tavern across the street, wanted to prevent another vacancy in the neighborhood while continuing the building's pizza tradition. The restaurant features a clean aesthetic, full bar, and expanded menu with pasta and sandwiches. Located below The Attic Comedy Club (also owned by Hobbs), Osteria aims to create a vibrant atmosphere at this corner that's been quieter since the pandemic.
🏥 New app connects Ohioans to mobile healthcare with just a tap. The Mobile Health Locator helps central Ohio residents find real-time services from ten partnered health organizations. Users can search by date, location, service needed, and insurance type to access checkups, vaccinations, mental health services, and more. Launched by the Central Ohio Mobile Consortium, which formed during the 2020 pandemic, the app aims to reach people in their communities rather than requiring trips to traditional facilities. Available on both Apple and Android devices, it makes healthcare more accessible for families across the region.
🚌 Licking County Transit sees ridership surge nearly 50% in one year. The agency's expansion of fixed-route bus services has fueled the growth, with trips increasing from 70,000 in 2023 to over 110,000 in 2024. Revenue jumped from $5.1 million to $6.4 million during the same period, with grants providing most of the funding. The Main Street route is currently the most popular, with riders using the service for appointments, work, and shopping. Future plans include new routes to Hebron, Buckeye Lake, and potentially Pataskala or New Albany, plus improved regional connections with the Central Ohio Transit Authority.
