🌉 Leadership bridge

Licking County • March 20, 2025

Good morning, Licking County. Leadership transitions rarely happen seamlessly, but Licking County's developmental disabilities services are maintaining continuity with Wendy Gorrell stepping in as interim superintendent next month. While splitting her time between Morgan County and Newark, she'll ensure the 2,600+ children and adults receiving critical support don't experience any disruption during the search for a permanent leader—a thoughtful approach to community care during organizational change.

As spring approaches, Thornville is looking toward Memorial Day with a meaningful tribute in the works. The new 20th and 21st Century Monument will honor veterans connected to Thorn Township, but the clock is ticking on submissions. With less than a year until the April 2025 deadline, now's the perfect time for residents to ensure their loved ones' military service receives the recognition it deserves. After all, remembering those who served is a community responsibility we all share.

She'll replace Jason Umstot, who is departing for the Ohio Health Care Association on April 4. While maintaining her current role as Morgan County's DD superintendent, Gorrell will split her time in Newark during the transition. The board expects the search for a permanent superintendent to take at least three months as they continue supporting over 2,600 children and adults in the community.
