Licking County • March 18, 2025
Good morning, Licking County. From dairy innovation to thrift store expansions, the wheels of commerce are turning at full speed in our community this month. Kroger's impressive $77 million dairy facility upgrade brings the Midwest's first aseptic milk production line to Newark, complete with technology that can process 450 bottles per minute—that's a lot of cream for your coffee!
Meanwhile, in a perfect example of commercial circle of life, Goodwill has purchased the long-vacant Kroger building on Deo Drive for $3 million, transforming it into "Goodwill Plaza." Add to that February's real estate market heating up with over $3 million in transactions—including those coveted Buckeye Lake waterfront properties—and it's clear that Licking County isn't just open for business; it's thriving.

🏠 Licking County real estate sales top $3 million in February. The property transfers, recorded from February 24-28, 2025, ranged from a modest $35,000 transaction in Mary Ann Township to a $3 million commercial sale in Newark. Buckeye Lake saw multiple high-value waterfront properties change hands, with several sales exceeding $400,000. Etna Township was particularly active with nine property transfers, most within the Weeping Willow Lane development. Throughout the county, residential sales dominated the market, with the majority of homes selling between $200,000 and $500,000.
🥛 Kroger's $77 million dairy expansion brings cutting-edge technology to Newark. The company added 40,000 square feet to its Tamarack Farms Dairy facility, incorporating an aseptic milk production line - the first of its kind in the Midwest. The upgraded facility features advanced processing systems and a Sidel filler capable of running 450 bottles per minute. Products from the new line, including creamers and whipping cream, will hit shelves in April, creating 20 new jobs. The expansion strengthens Kroger's ability to serve approximately 160 stores across Ohio and West Virginia.
🛒 Goodwill snaps up vacant Kroger building for $3 million. The former grocery store on Deo Drive will become "Goodwill Plaza," housing a relocated retail store, online auction platform, and a new centralized donation processing center. The 56,994-square-foot space, which has been empty since 2016, will create 20 new jobs, particularly for individuals with disabilities and employment barriers. Timothy Young, CEO of Licking/Knox Goodwill, explained that their current facility isn't sufficient for processing the abundant donations received across their ten retail locations in Licking and Knox counties.
