Good morning, Jackson County. The streets of Athens are about to come alive with oversized whimsy and creative spirit! The 13th annual Honey for the Heart Parade will transform downtown on October 25, featuring spectacular handmade puppets crafted by over 1,800 community members. This beloved Halloween tradition showcases what happens when Appalachian ingenuity meets upcycled materials – a magical procession followed by live music and dancing that's become the region's signature seasonal celebration.

Meanwhile, contrasting situations are unfolding across our area. Ohio University has removed film professor Thomas Hayes from teaching duties immediately following his return from detention by Israeli forces during a humanitarian mission, citing procedural violations regarding his online lectures. In Parkersburg, Mayor Tom Joyce is taking a stand against the West Virginia Division of Highways over neglected city roads, with council unanimously backing his demands for improved maintenance of state-managed infrastructure.
