Good morning, Jackson County. The darker side of our community's challenges came into focus this week as a Parkersburg man received a five-year prison sentence for selling methamphetamine and an unregistered "ghost gun" to an informant. The case highlights ongoing law enforcement efforts to address drug distribution in our region, while in a separate development, analysis reveals Mon Power customers have reportedly paid $10.3 million above market price for electricity from aging Ohio coal plantsβ€”a contract that extends until 2040.

Fall festivities are brightening the seasonal calendar throughout Pike County, offering something for everyone as temperatures begin to cool. The upcoming Hope Fest will bring local churches together for three evenings of community connection at the fairgrounds, while bargain hunters can explore "great deals" at the Garnet A. Wilson Public Library fundraiser. Health-minded residents haven't been forgotten either, with free heart screenings available through October and cooling assistance programs continuing until month's end.

πŸ’° Mon Power customers overpaid millions for electricity from Ohio coal plant. Analysis shows customers paid $10.3 million above market price for power from the Ohio Valley Electric Corporation between 2018 and 2024. The contract, which extends to 2040, involves plants originally built in 1955 to power a federal uranium facility. Mon Power's parent company, First Energy, faces legal troubles with former executives awaiting trial on bribery charges related to power plant bailouts. Despite growing public anger over rising electricity costs, a company spokesman defended the agreement as protection against fluctuating energy prices.
