🚶 March for meals

Good morning, Jackson County. The colorful spectacle of Pike County's annual Hunger Walk transformed Waverly into a vibrant parade of compassion last weekend. From American Legion members to horseback riders, Batman with his Batmobile, and Girl Scouts joining hands across several blocks—the community literally stretched itself to fight hunger, making powerful stops at both Bridgehaven Homeless Shelter and Pike Outreach Food Pantry.

As one community marches forward, another breaks new ground. The recent ceremony in Piketon marks the beginning of the Appalachian Career Empowerment Training Program facility—a partnership between United Steelworkers and the Southern Ohio Diversification Initiative. This manufacturing training hub arrives at a critical moment for the region, especially as Scioto County faces leadership challenges with Commissioner Bryan Davis receiving a provisional suspension amid multiple felony charges. The contrast reminds us how communities navigate both celebration and challenge simultaneously.

🏛️ Scioto County Commissioner vanishes after felony indictments. Bryan Davis received a provisional suspension from his duties after being charged with 13 felony counts related to alleged bribes and public contracts. Davis had not attended commissioner meetings since his August indictment, prompting calls for his resignation from political leaders. A document signed by Judge D. Dean Evans on September 10 confirmed Davis requested the suspension, which is paid leave while legal proceedings continue. Once a three-judge panel makes a final ruling, the local Republican Party can appoint a temporary replacement.
