Good morning, Jackson County. A historic victory has put Ravenswood Middle School on the map as their FFA chapter claimed the first-ever middle school Sweepstakes title, outshining 13 other teams in agricultural competitions. Beyond the impressive trophy, these young competitors are cultivating skills and friendships that will last well beyond their school years—a reminder that sometimes the greatest achievements happen before high school even begins.

On the courts, Rio Grande's volleyball team showed both dominance and resilience during the OnSet Invitational, splitting their opening day matches with a commanding win against Defiance College before a nail-biting five-set battle with Rochester Christian. Meanwhile, as athletic records are being written, the Meigs County Historical Society prepares to celebrate 150 years of preserving our collective story—from those first courthouse meetings in 1876 to today's multi-building museum complex in Middleport. Our county continues to honor both its past and its promising future.

🌾 Middle schoolers make history with first-ever FFA Sweepstakes win. The Ravenswood Middle School FFA chapter in West Virginia outperformed 13 other chapters to claim the inaugural middle school Sweepstakes title. Students competed in various agricultural contests including Food Science, Public Speaking, and Livestock Judging, with points awarded based on placement. Chapter president Milea Miihlbach emphasized that beyond the competitions, the program builds skills for future careers and creates lasting friendships. Advisor Jessica Conger hopes this historic achievement will inspire more students to participate in FFA activities.

🏛️ Meigs County's historical guardians celebrate 150 years of preserving the past. The society began in 1875 when local citizens organized to collect stories from early settlers before they were lost forever. Their first official meeting took place at the courthouse in September 1876, with subsequent gatherings featuring prayers, historical reports, and musical performances. After outgrowing several locations, the museum now operates from a donated property in Middleport that includes multiple buildings. The society will mark its 150th anniversary with a free public celebration on September 6, 2025, featuring refreshments, music, museum tours, and a glimpse of ongoing renovations to the 1872 Hall Complex.
