Jackson County • August 4, 2025
Good morning, Jackson County. The highways around Parkersburg became stages for unexpected drama this weekend, with not one but two traffic incidents testing emergency responders. Saturday night brought a two-car collision at 8th and Julianna Streets, while earlier that day, a flipped truck transformed US 50 into an impromptu dirt landscape. The silver lining? Despite the vehicular chaos, no injuries were reported in either incident—a testament to both luck and swift emergency response.
Meanwhile, Ohio's deer population might want to start watching their backs. The ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves has announced special archery hunts across 22 counties for the upcoming season. The initiative aims to protect native plant communities from being devoured by overpopulated deer herds. Hunters interested in participating should prepare for a lottery system, mandatory meetings, and a modest $5 ticket fee—a small price to pay for helping maintain Ohio's natural ecosystem balance.

🦌 Ohio opens special deer hunts to protect native plants. The ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves will hold archery hunts in 22 counties during the 2025-2026 season, with three preserves also permitting gun and muzzleloader hunts. Permits will be awarded through a lottery system requiring hunters to attend mandatory meetings and purchase $5 tickets for each preserve they wish to hunt. Some hunts will be antlerless deer only, while others allow taking antlered deer only after harvesting an antlerless deer first.
