Jackson County • July 22, 2025
Good morning, Jackson County. Behind every thriving school system stands someone like Belpre's Jeff Greenley, whose tireless work building relationships with state commissions and navigating complex funding mechanisms rarely makes headlines but shapes our children's futures for decades to come. His dedication to securing construction funds through partnerships at every level of government exemplifies the behind-the-scenes commitment of educational leaders throughout our region.
July marks 162 years since Ohio's soil witnessed its only Civil War battle, as Confederate raiders clashed with Union forces near Buffington Island in 1863. While history enthusiasts recently gathered to commemorate this significant moment in our state's past, the present is equally vibrant with creativity. The Parkersburg Art Center's Biennial Regional Exhibit has drawn an extraordinary 235 pieces exploring compassion through diverse media, offering a free window into our community's artistic soul through August 22.

๐ซ Belpre superintendent works tirelessly to secure school's future. Jeff Greenley is building crucial relationships with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission to match funds for school construction projects. He's also tackling bond financing with Moody's in Chicago, navigating Ohio budget bills, and seeking federal funding for community learning centers. These efforts demonstrate how school administrators across the Mid-Ohio Valley are dedicated to putting in extensive work that benefits both their communities and students. The partnerships Greenley is cultivating now could prove invaluable for years to come.
๐๏ธ Ohio's only Civil War battle commemorated 162 years later. The Battle of Buffington Island, part of "Morgan's Raid" in July 1863, saw Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan's 2,400 cavalrymen clash with 6,000 Union soldiers near Portland, Ohio. Henry Casey Camp 92 Commander Kelly Hopkins participated in the recent ceremony at the battlefield monument. During the raid, Morgan's forces wreaked havoc across southern Indiana and Ohio before attempting to cross the Ohio River, where about 700 raiders were captured while Morgan and others temporarily escaped.
