Good morning, Jackson County. The beloved bookmobile tradition is getting a modern makeover in Scioto County, where a sleek new light blue vehicle is bringing library services directly to rural doorsteps. Complete with wheelchair lifts and a large awning for outdoor activities, this mobile literary oasis represents more than just books—it's a lifeline for communities without brick-and-mortar branches and a highlight for schoolchildren who eagerly await its arrival, proudly showing their parents around during visits.

While the courts handle the usual mix of cases across Wood County, there's a bright spot for holiday travelers at the pump. Just in time for Fourth of July road trips, gas prices have dropped to an average of $3.11 per gallon statewide—welcome news as a record 72.2 million Americans prepare to celebrate independence. With 61.6 million choosing to travel by car this year, those five-cent savings couldn't have come at a better time.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

Brewing Locally Image

📚 Scioto County's new Bookmobile brings library services to rural doorsteps. The light blue vehicle replaces its 90,000-mile predecessor with enhanced accessibility features including wheelchair lifts and multiple entry points. Special secured book carts can be easily removed and transported into schools and community settings, while a large awning allows librarians to expand activities beyond the vehicle itself. The mobile library serves as both a crucial resource for underserved areas without brick-and-mortar branches and a beloved community attraction, particularly for schoolchildren who eagerly show their parents around during visits. Library staff adjust seasonal schedules between school visits in fall and community events in summer to maximize their impact across the county.
