Jackson County • June 20, 2025
Good morning, Jackson County. May's turning out to be a month of notable achievements and challenges across our region. The Wood County Magistrate Court has been particularly busy, processing dozens of criminal and traffic cases in early May—from DUIs to drug possession charges—with consequences ranging from fines to jail sentences, while some defendants saw their charges dismissed after fulfilling court requirements.
Meanwhile, local talent continues making waves beyond our borders. Parkersburg native Spencer Ross just claimed his fourth Tony Award for "Maybe Happy Ending," a robot love story he calls his "most meaningful" win yet. Closer to campus, environmental advocate Ava Wood has been appointed by Governor DeWine to Ohio University's Board of Trustees, bringing her passion for sustainability and student engagement to university governance through 2027. Her appointment represents fresh leadership during a transformative time for the institution.

🎭 Parkersburg native wins fourth Tony Award for robot love story. Spencer Ross earned his latest Tony for "Maybe Happy Ending," an original musical about two helper-bots in Seoul who discover love. The show took home six Tony Awards including Best Musical, with Ross calling this win "the most meaningful" because it champions original work not based on a movie. Starring Darren Criss and Helen J. Shen, the production explores human emotions through artificial beings.
