Founded by Marvin and Deana Clark, with roots in Athens County, the group kicked off this new chapter with a sold-out show celebrating Appalachian musical traditions. 🚓 Small-town police chief earns statewide D.A.R.E. recognition. Waverly Police Chief John Winfield has been named the 2025 Ohio D.A.R.E. Law Enforcement Executive of the Year. Winfield, who became chief in 2021, played a key role in bringing the D.A.R.E. program to Waverly City Schools for the 2024-25 academic year. He will receive the prestigious award on July 7th during a ceremony at the D.A.R.E./SRO Conference in Sandusky. Waverly City Schools expressed gratitude to Chief Winfield and the police department for their commitment to supporting local students.
🎓 Two Ohio University professors earn prestigious regional campus honors. Dr. Greg Obi and Dr. Michael Koop from OHIO Chillicothe were recognized for their outstanding contributions to teaching, scholarship, and service. Obi, an associate professor of management with nearly 20 years of experience, was praised for his dedication to student success and research on organizational management. Koop, an astronomy and physics instructor, was celebrated for his teaching excellence and community engagement through science programs. 🎵 Ohio Valley Opry finds new home in Belpre after two decades. The beloved live music show, featuring traditional country, bluegrass, and gospel performances, recently relocated from McConnelsville with a successful sold-out debut at 1944 Washington Boulevard. Founded by Marvin and Deana Clark (an Athens County native and Federal Hocking graduate), the Opry continues its celebration of Appalachian culture with family-friendly entertainment. Their next performances are scheduled for May 17 at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, with tickets available online or by phone.
