Good morning, Jackson County. May's arrival brings both road closures and academic celebrations to our region. Scioto County's ambitious roadwork schedule means significant travel adjustments for many, with multiple lane restrictions and complete closures affecting everything from Junior Furnace-Powellsville to Hayport Road. While some projects will wrap up quickly, others could stretch up to 90 daysβ€”all while mowing operations sweep across Bloom, Vernon, Green, and Porter townships.

Meanwhile, the worlds of education and broadcasting are celebrating a remarkable homecoming story. Larry Katz, who traded his WOUB sports broadcasting dreams for a successful restaurant career, has become Scripps College's largest individual donor. His generosity now fuels scholarships for future broadcasters, while Scioto County's youngest minds are getting their own boost through Fluor-BWXT's STEAM Ahead program, bringing hands-on science and technology experiences to Valley Primary students.

πŸŽ“ Ohio radio grad becomes college's biggest individual donor. Larry Katz, a 1977 Scripps College graduate, has been inducted into the Ohio Communication Hall of Fame for his extraordinary support of student opportunities. Though his career took him from sports broadcasting aspirations to owning restaurants in New Orleans, Katz never forgot his WOUB Public Media roots. He established multiple scholarships and funds specifically supporting WOUB sports productions, making him the largest individual donor to Scripps College. "I am who I am because of the people at this station and the work I did here," Katz said during his April induction ceremony.
