🐘 Safari on 339

Jackson County • March 26, 2025

Good morning, Jackson County. In a heartening display of cultural inclusivity, Ohio University is ensuring Muslim students can fully observe Ramadan while pursuing their education. From pre-dawn Suhoor meals to clearly labeled food options and prayer accommodations, the university's comprehensive approach has international student Isatou Secka feeling "more comfortable in her hijab at OU than anywhere else in the U.S." Meanwhile, a whimsical roadside scene in Beverly has locals doing double-takesβ€”an elephant statue and lion billboard facing off along Ohio 339 in what might be our region's most unusual wildlife encounter.

Academic excellence is shining brightly across our area, with Ohio University recognizing an impressive 34 Lawrence County students who achieved perfect 4.0 GPAs on the Fall 2024 President's List. The academic honors don't stop thereβ€”76 additional local scholars made the Provost's List, while Berea College and Miami University also celebrated achievements from hometown talent. These accomplishments remind us of the exceptional educational foundation being built throughout our community.
