Good morning, Jackson County. Academic excellence is alive and well in our region! A remarkable 115 local students have earned their place on Ohio University's Fall 2024 Dean's List, representing communities from Ironton to Kitts Hill. These scholars maintained impressive GPAs while balancing full course loads—a testament to the determination and intellectual firepower flourishing in our corner of Ohio.
Meanwhile, Tuesday afternoon brought an unexpected turn of events at Vienna Car Wash when a Cadillac driver's pedal confusion led to a collision with both equipment and building. As that driver recovers from non-life threatening injuries, Parkersburg City Council has made waves of a different sort—voting 6-3 to limit public comments to agenda items only, despite citizen pushback. The controversial move extends individual speaking time but restricts the topics community members can address at meetings.

🚗 Car wash trip takes destructive turn in Vienna. A driver at Vienna Car Wash accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake, sending their 2001 Cadillac DTS crashing into equipment and the building. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon before 3 p.m. at 1908 Grand Central Avenue. The driver, whose name hasn't been released, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center. Police reported that charges are not currently pending, and damage estimates for the building have not yet been determined.
🗣️ Parkersburg silences citizens on non-agenda topics at council meetings. City Council voted 6-3 to restrict public forum comments to only items appearing on meeting agendas, despite multiple residents speaking against the limitation. The resolution also extends individual speaking time from three to four minutes and increases the maximum forum duration to 40 minutes. Council President Mike Reynolds previously claimed some speakers were "spreading rumors and lies" about the administration, but critics argued limiting speech would only push false narratives to other platforms. Councilman Huffman opposed the change, stating, "I'll never be in favor of restricting free speech."
