Good morning, Jackson County. In the heart of late winter, Hope Methodist Church is serving up more than just baked spaghetti this Wednesday—they're dishing out a hearty helping of community connection. Their free dinner in Wellston offers a warm reprieve from March's chill, complete with delivery options for those unable to make the journey. It's a timely reminder that breaking bread together remains one of our most powerful traditions.
The fabric of our community continues to shift as we bid farewell to James "Jim" Davis, whose 84 years were marked by storytelling and kindness to strangers. Meanwhile, just across county lines, Athens is making meaningful strides in public transportation accessibility, leveraging local contributions to secure impressive federal funding. Their efforts to expand service hours and overcome transit stigma reflect a growing recognition that mobility connects us all—something Jim Davis understood intuitively through his lifetime of reaching out to others.

💐 A beloved storyteller and collector has completed his final journey. James "Jim" Davis, 84, passed away on February 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity. The retired Goodyear employee of 43 years was known for never meeting a stranger and always being ready with a story or helping hand. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy, his daughters, grandchildren, brother, and his dog Buckeye. Funeral services will be held on February 26 in Grove City, Ohio.
🚌 Athens County invests in public transit for all residents. The Board of Commissioners authorized $7,500 to continue supporting the Athens County Mobility Management Program, which ensures transportation options reach beyond city limits. The program leverages local contributions to secure federal funding at a 4:1 ratio, while working to overcome public transit stigma through community outreach and education. Mobility Coordinator Ben Ziff recently testified for House Bill 54, which allocates nearly $200 million for public transit across Ohio, where funding currently sits at just $6 per capita compared to the national average of $60. Athens Public Transit hopes to expand service hours and frequency with its recently improved fleet and planned centralized facility.
