🎨 Creativity amidst the chill

Jackson County • January 22, 2025

Good morning, Jackson County. When Disney's "Coconut Tree" meets Arctic temperatures, you know you're in for an interesting week in the Mid-Ohio Valley. While thermometers plunge to a teeth-chattering -7°F, our community's heart remains remarkably warm, with local shelters stepping up to provide crucial sanctuary. The Gathering church alone is offering nighttime refuge to up to 35 of our neighbors, proving that even the coldest days can bring out our warmest gestures.

Meanwhile, Wellston High School's young artists are fighting winter's monochrome palette with splashes of vibrant creativity. Their new library mural is brightening spirits just as local children prepare to spread some Valentine's Day love to nursing home residents. Between arctic blasts and artistic bursts, our community keeps finding beautiful ways to stay connected.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

❄️ Arctic blast grips Mid-Ohio Valley with dangerous -7°F wind chills. The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory through Wednesday morning for the Parkersburg area, marking one of the region's most severe cold spells in recent years. Local shelters, including the Salvation Army and The Gathering church, are providing crucial warmth and support, with The Gathering hosting up to 35 people nightly. The frigid temperatures have forced school closures and prompted officials to issue safety warnings for residents. Relief is expected by Thursday when temperatures will climb above freezing, with more seasonal temperatures in the low 40s forecast for the weekend.
