Hocking County • October 10, 2025
Good morning, Hocking County. The haunted tunnels of Moonville are getting an adrenaline boost this year with the addition of the inaugural "Deadman Dash 5K" to the beloved midnight festival. Costumed runners will kick off the Halloween festivities on October 11, 2025, setting the stage for a full day of spooky celebrations culminating with live music under the stars—a fitting evolution for one of our region's most atmospheric autumn traditions.
Around the county, community support continues to strengthen. The Hocking County Veterans' Resource Fair connected those who served with essential services at its new Hocking Hills Retreat Center location, while the youngest residents have a fresh reason to visit the children's museum. "The Carr Doctor," a cleverly named auto repair exhibit funded through community partnership, now offers budding mechanics a sturdier, more engaging hands-on experience—proving that Hocking County invests in both honoring its past and building its future.

🔧 Children's museum revs up with new interactive auto repair exhibit. The Hocking Hills Children's Museum unveiled "The Carr Doctor," a sturdier, life-sized toy vehicle where kids can play mechanic. Funded by a $12,500 matching grant from the Hocking Hills Tourism Association, the $25,000 custom installation was built by Troy Shurtz of Creative Cabinets. The exhibit's punny name honors its original sponsor, Dr. Douglas Carr, who wanted to support the museum regardless of theme. This new attraction replaces an older repair shop exhibit that had maintenance and organizational challenges.
