Hocking County • September 19, 2025
Good morning, Hocking County. Nelsonville finds itself at a fascinating political crossroads that could make for an unprecedented chapter in local governance history. With dueling councils potentially emerging after November's election, residents may soon witness a scenario straight out of a civics textbook—two separate groups claiming legitimate authority over the same small Ohio city, with only the courts able to ultimately decide who's right.
Meanwhile, the heart of small-town Ohio shines brightly in neighboring Laurelville, where community members rallied to replace Brad's stolen golf cart—a vehicle he'd used for years to help seniors with groceries and support local businesses. And for those seeking high-flying entertainment, mark your calendars for September 2025, when the Vinton County Airshow returns with aerobatic performances, skydivers, and even a flying lawn mower that defies both gravity and gardening conventions.

🗳️ Nelsonville faces political chaos as dueling governments could emerge. November's election could result in competing claims over who are the rightful leaders of Nelsonville's government following a disputed repeal of Issue 23. The city council voted to repeal the citizen initiative that would change Nelsonville's form of government, but seven candidates are still running for council seats under Issue 23. Meanwhile, four candidates are running for one-month December council positions who could appoint others to fill seats, potentially creating two competing seven-person councils come January. Only a court decision will ultimately determine which government is legitimate.
🏌️ A small Ohio town's heart shines after neighbor's golf cart theft. When Brad, a beloved community figure in Laurelville, had his golf cart stolen after 11 years, the tight-knit village of under 500 residents rallied to help. Brad was known for using his cart to assist senior citizens with groceries and help local businesses with cleanup. After hearing about the theft, Kim Wilson and Doug DeLong from Salt Creek Bank worked together to gift Brad a new cart. Now back on the road with his replacement vehicle, Brad continues his mission of kindness in the community.
