🎓 Two Highland County students secure prestigious Appalachian Ohio scholarships. The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio awarded over $700,000 in scholarships across its 32-county region, benefiting more than 300 students. Stevie Ford from Greenfield received the AK Steel Foundation Scholarship for STEM studies and plans to attend Marietta College. Emma Yochum of Hillsboro earned the Bob Evans and Wayne F. White Legacy Scholarship and will attend Oklahoma State University. The scholarships represent the foundation's commitment to education as a pathway for helping Appalachian communities flourish.
🎆 Multiple July 4 celebrations light up Logan and surrounding areas. Residents can enjoy free fireworks displays at Hocking County Fairgrounds in Logan and Thunder in the Valley in Nelsonville, both starting at 10 p.m. The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway offers a special Fireworks Express train ride ending at the Nelsonville display. Lancaster will host a parade starting at 10 a.m. followed by evening fireworks, while Hocking Hills Golf Club presents a "Fireworks on the Fairway" celebration on July 5 with live music and festivities.
