Hocking County • June 26, 2025
Good morning, Hocking County. The arts are alive and flourishing across our region this summer. In New Lexington, local youth are polishing their performances of "Snow White" under the guidance of Roger Dusenberry and Lexi Foreman, preparing to transform the Perry County Calvary Arts Center into an enchanted forest on June 27. Meanwhile, the Nelsonville Music Festival created its own magic at Snow Fork Event Center, where performers like Charley Crockett and Waxahatchee had crowds smiling, dancing, and embodying vendor Portia Yiamouyiannis's observation that "Everyone will wave at you when you look up."
Sometimes the most powerful community moments come from the smallest hands. Five-year-old Rosaleigh Rain Tokie of Corning proved this when her heart-decorated cup collected $200 for homeless residents. The kindergartener's compassionate fundraising at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church so moved Judge Luann Cooperrider that she keeps the cup on her desk as a reminder of how even our youngest neighbors can make a meaningful difference—something Rosaleigh plans to continue "for the rest of my life."
