Good morning, Hocking County. The semiconductor industry is creating a new pipeline of opportunity right in our backyard. Ohio University Lancaster's upcoming Semiconductor Technician Certificate program represents a strategic response to our state's growing manufacturing sector, offering students a flexible one-year pathway to high-demand careers without the four-year degree commitment. With hands-on training in professional clean room environments, graduates will find doors opening across multiple industries—from medical technology to defense systems.

Meanwhile, outdoor enthusiasts are gearing up for an ambitious challenge on National Trails Day—collectively hiking all 1,440 miles of the historic Buckeye Trail in just 24 hours. This statewide effort coincides perfectly with the trail's potential National Scenic Trail designation. And for those who prefer entertainment to exertion, the Starbrick Music Festival returns to Nelsonville this June with classic rock and country tributes, plus a new Battle of the Bands competition that supports the Chris Roell TBI Foundation.

🔧 Ohio University Lancaster opens door to semiconductor manufacturing careers. The new Semiconductor Technician Certificate program, launching fall 2025, will train students to meet growing demand in Ohio's advanced manufacturing industry. This one-year certificate can be stacked with existing automation and mechatronics certificates, giving students flexibility without committing to a four-year degree. Students will gain hands-on experience in a professional clean room environment with advanced equipment, preparing them for diverse job opportunities in medical, food, defense and other industries using semiconductor technology. The program serves as the first step in a career ladder, with many employers willing to fund additional education for certificate holders.
