Good morning, Hocking County. Fresh faces and fresh perspectives are breathing new life into our community this week. Alicia Szczesniak brings her unique blend of creative writing talent and scientific curiosity to the Logan Daily News, trading campus life at Ohio University for the rich storytelling landscape of Appalachian journalism. Her background in both reporting facts and crafting narratives promises to add a distinctive voice to our local news coverage.
Meanwhile, the future of Southern Perry County is getting a substantial investment as the Academic Endowment Fund pours over $53,000 into both student scholarships and educational resources. Fourteen Miller High School graduates now have additional financial support for their college journeys, while new band uniforms and science equipment will enhance learning experiences for current students. The fund's philosophy that "education is the key to unlocking opportunity" continues to transform from principle into practice across our region.

📝 Meet Alicia Szczesniak, the fresh face of local journalism. The recent Ohio University graduate joins the Logan Daily News and Perry County Tribune with a background in creative writing and fact-based reporting. Her college experience included writing for The Ohio University Post about music and social trends, while also founding a science magazine that combined her journalism major and geoscience minor. Szczesniak was drawn to community journalism and Appalachian culture, making this position her ideal job. When not reporting, she enjoys rock climbing, hiking national parks, crocheting, and creative writing projects.
