Good morning, Hocking County. Southeastern Ohio is embracing its quirky side this spring, with Hocking Hills showcasing accommodations that would make even Tolkien envious. From treehouses swaying in the forest canopy to earth-sheltered hobbit homes, nature lovers can now immerse themselves in both the landscape and imaginative lodging. Add in thundering waterfalls, wildflowers, and—believe it or not—the world's largest pencil sharpener collection, and you've got a destination that defies ordinary.

Just a short drive away, traditions are finding new homes as Perry County's beloved Home & Garden Show relocates to Mt. Aloysius Community Center after three decades at the fairgrounds. Meanwhile, a significant shift is underway in Wayne National Forest, where federal officials have reopened fracking applications after years of legal battles—a development that has environmental groups promising continued resistance while oil and gas interests celebrate the end of their decade-long wait.

🌲 Federal officials reopen fracking in Ohio's only national forest. The Bureau of Land Management is now accepting applications for oil and gas drilling in Wayne National Forest after completing a new environmental assessment. This move follows years of legal battles, including a 2021 court ruling that blocked new leases due to inadequate environmental impact studies. Environmental groups like the Center for Biological Diversity call the new assessment "a joke" and vow to continue fighting against fracking in the forest. Meanwhile, the Ohio Oil and Gas Association welcomes the decision after what they describe as a patient decade-long wait.
