💪 Resilience ripples

Good morning, Hamilton County. Sometimes life's most difficult challenges inspire the most beautiful acts of generosity. Just ask Ken Ludlow, whose partner Charlene's battle with stage four oral cancer moved him to establish two endowment funds at UC Health. Their story of resilience and appreciation for "phenomenal" medical care stands in stark contrast to the troubling reports from West End, where residents describe recent gunfire as sounding "like an active war zone" – with one incident unleashing up to 75 shots in a single night.

While community safety concerns persist, Cincinnati continues cultivating tomorrow's leaders through programs like Leadership Cincinnati. The Chamber's flagship initiative just selected its 49th class, comprising 61 local executives poised to shape our region's future. These emerging leaders join a legacy of community builders working to strengthen Hamilton County neighborhoods during both challenging and promising times.

🏥 Cancer diagnosis inspires UC alumnus to create endowment funds. Ken Ludlow established two funds after witnessing his partner Charlene Comeaux's battle with stage four oral cancer at UC Health. The couple, self-described Bearcats fans who prioritize fun and adventure, were deeply impressed by the "phenomenal" care Comeaux received during her 12-hour surgery and recovery. Ludlow's generous estate gift will support both cancer research at the UC College of Medicine and scholarships for student-athletes. Comeaux, now 18 months post-treatment with clean CT scans, says simply of her role: "I'm his inspiration."

🔫 Gunfire terrorizes Cincinnati neighborhood with 65-75 shots fired in one night. West End residents described the 3 a.m. Saturday shooting near Lynn Street as sounding "like an active war zone." The affected couple, who wished to remain anonymous, claim gunfire is a weekly occurrence in their area, with their own door being shot at last December. Community council member Noah O'Brien highlighted crime hotspots, noting four people were shot in the same location over a five-week period this summer. Residents fear another tragedy like the 2023 killing of 11-year-old Domonic Davis without increased police intervention.
