💰 Money moves

Good morning, Hamilton County. From railway funds to burger deals, money is certainly in motion across the region this week. The Cincinnati Southern Railway Trust's digital transformation has turned that massive $1.6 billion sale into a trackable investment, with the fund already growing to $1.7 billion—a 7.5% increase that residents can now monitor in real-time through the revamped website. This remarkable transparency gives citizens unprecedented visibility into how these infrastructure dollars are being managed and spent.

While one part of the county celebrates financial growth, Colerain Township faces a different economic reality as police staffing falls below national standards. The department's struggle to maintain adequate response times during peak hours has prompted public forums and radio discussions as officials search for solutions. On a tastier note, Cincinnati's Burger Week returns July 7-13, transforming $7 into culinary adventures at over 80 restaurants—often creating their highest sales week of the year while giving diners a chance at $500 in gift cards.

🚂 Cincinnati's $1.6 billion railway sale fund gets a digital makeover. The Cincinnati Southern Railway Trust has launched a revamped website (thecsrt.org) providing transparent access to financial information about the investment fund created from the 2023 railway sale. The site now displays monthly updates on the portfolio's value, which has grown to over $1.7 billion, representing a 7.5% increase over the past year. Visitors can access meeting schedules, financial reports, and information about how the city is spending the revenue, which by law can only fund existing infrastructure maintenance or replacement. The Board of Trustees manages the investments while City Council makes all spending decisions, with $56 million allocated for fiscal year 2026.

👮‍♂️ Colerain Township police desperately needs more officers. Chief Ed Cordie revealed the department's staffing falls below national averages, leaving them unable to respond adequately during peak call times. At a recent town hall meeting, officials discussed the problem's impact on resident safety and potential solutions. Township Administrator Jeff Weckbach and Trustee Matt Wahlert participated in a Cincinnati Edition radio program to address the staffing challenges. The issue has become serious enough to warrant public forums as the department struggles to maintain service levels.
