Geauga County • August 5, 2025
Good morning, Geauga County. The urban forest is getting a much-needed boost as Euclid secures a $50,000 grant to prune approximately 300 large tree-lawn trees throughout the community. This investment through Cuyahoga County's Healthy Urban Tree Canopy Program recognizes what many residents already know—that healthy trees provide essential environmental, health, and beautification benefits that enhance our daily lives.
From nurturing nature to supporting students, our community continues to demonstrate its commitment to care. Solon's inaugural "Tools for School" event on August 13 aims to fill an entire bus with essential supplies for local students in need. Meanwhile, a troubling incident at a Willowick daycare has resulted in serious charges against a worker accused of breaking a child's bone—a stark reminder of the trust we place in those who care for our youngest community members.

📚 Solon's first "Tools for School" event aims to fill a bus with supplies. The August 13 drive at Bicentennial Park invites community members to donate essential school items for local students in need. This collaborative effort between Solon Schools, the city, and Valtronic's employee-led outreach committee will distribute supplies through partnerships with Solon Rotary and Our Community Hunger Center. Superintendent Fred Bolden highlighted how this initiative demonstrates effective civic partnerships directly benefiting students. Requested items include everything from notebooks and pencils to disinfecting wipes and peanut-free snacks.
😱 Daycare worker charged after breaking child's bone in rage incident. Mary Stewart, 47, allegedly grabbed a 4-year-old girl and roughly tossed her onto a cot, causing the child to fall and suffer a broken clavicle. The Euclid woman now faces felony charges of assault and child endangering following the May incident at Leaders of the Future daycare in Willowick, Ohio. The child's mother has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $25,000 in damages from both Stewart and the daycare. As a condition of her $5,000 bond, Stewart is prohibited from contacting the victim or any minor children who aren't her own.
