Geauga County • July 9, 2025
Good morning, Geauga County. The aroma of freshly baked pastries and premium sushi is about to transform the Northeast Ohio dining scene. This August, pastry chef Ashley Angelone will bring her nostalgic treats to Solon when Wicked Whisk bakery opens its doors on Aurora Road, promising to satisfy sweet cravings with everything from cookies to artisanal breads. Meanwhile, after a three-year sushi hiatus, chef Carmen Paponetti is returning to his culinary roots with Domo Yakitori and Sushi in Ohio City—though ironically, yakitori won't be on the menu at his primarily takeout establishment.
Beyond the food scene, Richmond Heights council president Bobby Jordan is seeking a second term after his narrow victory in 2021. The former school board chair and social worker points to infrastructure improvements and business expansion during his first term, building on his background as an advocate for special needs families. His re-election bid has already garnered endorsements from Mayor Kim Thomas and numerous Ohio political figures.

🧁 Wicked Whisk bakery brings sweet dreams to Solon this August. Pastry chef Ashley Angelone will helm the new concept from Cleveland Restaurant Management Group, offering cookies, eclairs, breads and pastries to both retail customers and CRMG restaurants. The bakery, located at 32975 Aurora Road, represents a career milestone for Angelone, who previously worked at Capriccio's and OddFellows. Having refined her skills under consultant Brad Friedlander since 2012, Angelone hopes her creations will evoke childhood nostalgia for customers, saying "a little bite means so much."
🍣 Chef's sushi passion leads to new Ohio City restaurant. Carmen Paponetti is preparing to open Domo Yakitori and Sushi on Lorain Avenue, bringing his culinary expertise back to Cleveland after a three-year hiatus from sushi. The 800-square-foot space will focus primarily on takeout with an expanded, innovative sushi menu—a shift from his previous Shaker Heights location that closed in 2023. Despite the name, the new restaurant won't feature yakitori (grilled skewered food) but will instead concentrate on what customers truly want: exceptional sushi with premium ingredients. Paponetti, who honed his sushi skills under restaurateur Zack Bruell, also runs Timber Kitchen & Social in Willowick.
