Good morning, Geauga County. The old saying that "all politics is local" takes on dramatic new meaning in Cleveland Heights, where Mayor Kahlil Seren's erratic behavior has thrown city hall into turmoil. From filming himself working silently for hours to making explosive accusations during council meetings, the situation has escalated from concerning to what some local podcast hosts are now describing as a full-blown leadership crisis.

Meanwhile, financial survival strategies are taking center stage in Ohio's cannabis industry, where businesses are embracing a risky tax exemption that could either save millions or trigger costly audits. The gamble reflects growing desperation in the state's marijuana market. In South Euclid, democracy itself is under scrutiny as former state senator Shirley Smith raises the alarm about council appointment processes, arguing that bypassing public input threatens the fundamental principles of local government representation.

πŸŒͺ️ Cleveland Heights mayor's erratic behavior plunges city into crisis. Mayor Kahlil Seren has been described as "unhinged" on a local podcast after disappearing during a controversy involving antisemitic comments by his wife. The situation escalated when he reappeared and accused council members of racism for questioning his absence, telling them "You are not my overseer. I am not your Negro." His bizarre behavior includes filming himself working silently for hours, while residents reportedly want him removed and city employees have resigned amid the chaos. The podcast hosts suggested council members should explore legal options for removing a mayor they consider "mentally unfit for the job."

πŸ’° Ohio cannabis businesses gamble on risky tax strategy to save millions. Cash-strapped marijuana companies in the state are embracing a 280E tax exemption that could significantly improve their bottom lines. The controversial approach comes as Ohio's cannabis market struggles against competition from neighboring Michigan. Industry experts warn this tax strategy carries substantial audit risks, but desperate businesses see it as necessary for survival in a challenging regulatory environment. Meanwhile, the alcohol industry is pushing for its own piece of Ohio's hemp sector.

πŸ›οΈ South Euclid's democracy erodes as council bypasses public input. Former state senator Shirley Smith criticizes the city council for appointing Len Calabrese without allowing Ward 2 residents to apply for the vacant seat. She argues that opening the application process for the current Ward 1 vacancy would strengthen democracy by ensuring broader representation. Smith challenges Councilman Justin Tisdale's preference for direct appointment, urging residents to contact their representatives and advocate for good governance. The former senator frames this as a critical moment for preserving democratic principles in local government.
