🦅 Snipe hunt reality

Geauga County • April 2, 2025

Good morning, Geauga County. April in Northeast Ohio brings more than just rain showers and blooming flowers – it's officially snipe hunting season! And no, that's not an April Fools' joke. At Frohring Meadows, actual birders recently spotted these elusive, pudgy birds with their distinctive long bills darting across the marshland, proving that sometimes truth is more delightful than fiction. Spring migration makes this the perfect time to witness these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat.

Meanwhile, imagination takes flight at Grant Elementary, where "The Wizard of Oz" has been selected for this year's One School, One Book project, uniting young readers on a magical journey down the yellow brick road. The literary adventure stands in stark contrast to the drama unfolding in University Heights, where Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan's F-bomb-laced outburst at a council meeting has officials suggesting he follow Dorothy's lead – and find his way home.

🦅 Snipe hunting is real, not an April Fools' joke. At Frohring Meadows in Chagrin Falls, naturalist Trevor Wearstler led birders on a genuine April 1st hunt for the elusive Wilson snipe. Despite the date's association with pranks, participants spotted the small, pudgy birds with long bills darting across the marshland. The timing was intentionally cheeky but practical, as spring migration makes this the perfect season to observe snipes in Northeast Ohio's wet, open fields. Beyond snipes, enthusiasts also enjoyed sightings of bluebirds, red-winged blackbirds, and even a juvenile eagle during the outing.

🤬 Mayor drops F-bomb at council meeting, storms out in rage. University Heights Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan swore at Councilman John Rach during a Facilities Committee meeting before abruptly leaving. The confrontation erupted while discussing potential costs for renovating the former Wiley School building, with Brennan exploding after Rach called his statement "sneaky." Vice Mayor Michele Weiss suggested Brennan should resign, calling his behavior part of a pattern of "ridicule, unprofessionalism, and lack of leadership." Brennan later defended his actions while making unsubstantiated claims that Rach lives in Conneaut, not University Heights.
