🎬 Cinema for change

Geauga County • February 25, 2025

Good morning, Geauga County. In an era when streaming platforms dominate our screens, something remarkable is happening at Atlas Cinemas Great Lakes. The powerful documentary "No Address" is about to turn our local theater into ground zero for social change, with 50% of profits flowing directly to organizations fighting homelessness. It's the kind of community-focused cinema that reminds us why watching together still matters.

While that story unfolds on the big screen, our parks are going digital in the sweetest way possible. The new "Maple Madness" mobile game at Swine Creek Reservation is turning traditional maple sugaring into a high-tech treasure hunt, just as local officials engage in their own quest to preserve marijuana tax revenue from state redistribution plans. Who knew spring in Geauga County would bring such a unique blend of syrup, cinema, and civic action?

🌿 Ohio cities fight to keep their share of marijuana tax money. Wickliffe Mayor Joe Sakacs raised alarm over Governor DeWine's proposal to redirect cannabis dispensary tax revenue away from municipalities. The controversial plan would see the state keeping all excise tax proceeds from marijuana sales, cutting off a vital funding stream for local governments. Cities currently receive a percentage of these taxes to support local services and programs. The issue has sparked heated debate among city officials concerned about potential budget impacts.
