🚨 Registered sex offender arrested in Ohio for crimes against minors. Detectives from Meigs County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Security arrested Scott Hergott, 47, during a search of his Pomeroy residence on October 24. Hergott, designated as a lifetime registered sexual predator in Texas, faces charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor and public indecency involving a minor. Sheriff Fitch emphasized the department's commitment to protecting the community from child exploitation, with authorities expecting additional charges to be filed. Hergott remains in custody at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail while the investigation continues.
🎓 Buckeye Hills Career Center celebrates 225 students on first-quarter honor roll. Students from eight area high schools earned academic recognition for the grading period ending October 17. Gallia Academy led with 39 students achieving straight A's, while Vinton County followed with 27 top performers. The comprehensive list includes students who earned all A's as well as those with A's and B's across various schools including River Valley, South Gallia, Meigs, Christian Life Academy, Jackson, Oak Hill, and Wellston. This recognition highlights academic excellence across southeastern Ohio's career-focused education programs.
📚 Pleasant CEOS Club plans community events while promoting health awareness. The group met on October 9th at Village Pizza to discuss their Little Free Library project at Krodel Park, which offers books to the public at no cost. Members received breast self-exam instructions in recognition of Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. The club finalized arrangements for the upcoming November County Council meeting and Fall Achievement event, which they will host. Fourteen members attended the meeting, which also featured a presentation on the history of Christmas cookies.
