Gallia County • September 30, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. The ripple effects of selfless service are transforming our region, as Lawrence County's Amanda Cleary receives the prestigious 2025 Jenco Award for her remarkable volunteer leadership. Through beautification projects, inclusive art events, and revitalizing the Ironton Senior Center, she exemplifies how dedicated individuals can reshape communities through genuine commitment to others.
Change and tradition dance together across our county this week. While the Chamber bids farewell to Hailey O'Born as she returns to Montana with plans to maintain her Ohio connections, the Rio Renaissance Faire brought old-world magic back to Rio Grande with impressive growth in its second year. Despite morning rain, the event drew record attendance as costumed performers, period food, and activities from axe throwing to knight training transported visitors to another era—all without that two-hour drive to similar attractions.

🌟 Lawrence County resident Amanda Cleary honored for extraordinary community service. The Ironton native has been named a 2025 Jenco Award recipient, recognizing her selfless commitment to serving others outside of paid work. As volunteer executive director of Third and Center, Cleary leads beautification projects, inclusive art events, and community programming throughout Lawrence County. Her recent initiative to revitalize the Ironton Senior Center has restored vital meal services and programming for local seniors. The Jenco Awards, established to honor Father Lawrence Martin Jenco's legacy of service, celebrate everyday people making remarkable differences in Appalachian Ohio.
👋 After three years, Hailey O'Born bids farewell to Gallia County Chamber. The executive assistant is returning to her home state of Montana to care for family while maintaining ties to Ohio. During her tenure, O'Born helped organize signature events like the annual dinner and farmers market, earning praise from Executive Director Bob Hood for her exceptional contributions. Though leaving physically, she plans to split her time "60/40" between Montana and Ohio, continuing her connection with the community that made her feel like family. Molly Jarrell will step into O'Born's position at the Chamber.
🏰 Renaissance magic returns to Rio Grande with bigger, better faire. The second annual Rio Renaissance Faire drew record attendance Saturday, with organizers reporting 140 more visitors than last year despite morning rain. Created by Mackenzie Halley, Kaitlyn Halley and Matt Addis following their success with Final Boss Con, the event recreates English Renaissance atmosphere through costumed performers, period food, and handcrafted goods. Attractions included a costume contest, Tomato Torture, axe throwing, knight training, and various craft activities. Attendees praised the event's charm and accessibility, with one visitor appreciating "having something like this nearby without having to drive two hours."
