Good morning, Gallia County. The crisp autumn air has ushered in a weekend bursting with cultural festivities throughout our community. From costumed revelers at the Rio Renaissance Faire to the heartfelt Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Saturday promises something for everyone. History enthusiasts won't want to miss Sunday's special treat when three-time Iditarod musher Karen Land visits Bossard Library with her Alaskan Husky companion to share tales from the legendary sled dog race.
Just across the river, Point Pleasant is stepping back in time with Battle Days, transforming Tu-Endie-Wei State Park into a living Colonial museum complete with historical reenactments and lantern tours. Meanwhile, change comes to Point Pleasant Eye Clinic as ownership transitions to doctors from Ravenswood Eyecare on September 1, though familiar faces—including Dr. John B. Knight—will continue providing care to patients at the same trusted location.

🍂 Fall festivals take over Gallia County this weekend. The Rio Renaissance Faire returns Saturday with costumed attendees, entertainment, and a marketplace celebrating 16th century culture. Other Saturday events include the Holzer Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Wendell "Trey" Rossiter Memorial Car Show, and "The Most Magical Fall Festival on Earth" at Vinton Elementary. On Sunday, three-time Iditarod participant Karen Land will visit Bossard Memorial Library with her Alaskan Husky to share her mushing experiences.
🏛️ Colonial history comes alive at Point Pleasant's Battle Days festival. Every October, the West Virginia community transforms Tu-Endie-Wei State Park into a living museum commemorating the 1774 Battle of Point Pleasant, considered by some as the first battle of the American Revolution. Visitors can experience Colonial-era reenactments, lantern tours, parades, and living history portrayals of historical figures like Chief Cornstalk and George Washington. The three-day celebration (October 3-5) includes a 5K run, Governor's Ball, and memorial services honoring those who fought in the historic conflict. Throughout the weekend, attendees can explore encampments showing how Colonists and Native Americans lived, creating a meaningful blend of history and community spirit.
👁️ Point Pleasant Eye Clinic changes hands but keeps familiar faces. Ownership will transfer to doctors from Ravenswood Eyecare on September 1, though Dr. John B. Knight will continue providing care at the same location. The transition aims to ensure growth while maintaining personalized patient care, with no changes to contact information or insurance participation. Community members can meet the new owners during an open house on October 18, featuring food trucks, giveaways, and a chance to win free sunglasses.
