Gallia County • April 22, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. A golf club signing, a heart-wrenching tragedy, and recognition for emergency heroes—this week brings a tapestry of triumph and sorrow across our community. Martins Ferry's Julia Hancock has written her future in bold strokes, committing her talents to University of Rio Grande's golf program after earning well-deserved recognition on the Eastern District Division Two first team, surrounded by proud family and school officials during her signing.
Meanwhile, Clay Township faces unimaginable grief as five individuals were discovered deceased in a home on State Route 7 South. Sheriff Champlin called the loss "truly heartbreaking" as investigations continue. Amid these contrasting emotions, the Mason County Commission has channeled healing through action—honoring emergency telecommunicators, directing $142,542 in opioid settlement funds toward school social workers, and investing in a law enforcement simulator for students in the county's new program launching this fall.
