Good morning, Franklin County. Behind the scenes of Ohio's judicial landscape, an unexpected power struggle is unfolding as Judge Andrew King refuses to step aside in a Supreme Court race that has incumbent Justice Pat Fischer making an unusual lateral move. The political chess match highlights the high stakes in maintaining the court's current 6-1 Republican majority, with supporters from both sides already deploying sharp rhetoric in what promises to be a contentious 2026 showdown.

In stark contrast to political tensions, a heartwarming initiative is bringing joy to local seniors through an innovative transportation solution. Cycling Without Age Columbus has volunteers pedaling elderly passengers around in special triobikes, creating meaningful connections while combating isolation. Meanwhile, the community is processing Thursday's police response to a suicidal person in Gahanna that ended with gunfire and hospitalization, as state investigators now examine the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting.

⚖️ Ohio judge defies Republican incumbent in Supreme Court race showdown. Judge Andrew King is refusing to step aside despite Justice Pat Fischer's unexpected decision to run for the same seat in 2026. King's supporters are attacking Fischer as a "Harvard graduate" and "swampy" politician, connecting him to ongoing tensions between Trump and Ivy League institutions. The race highlights Republican efforts to maintain their 6-1 majority on Ohio's highest court, where Fischer cannot seek reelection to his current seat in 2028 due to age limits. Since party affiliations began appearing on judicial ballots in 2022, Republicans have won all six Supreme Court elections.
